Countdown to Knock ME Down 2024
This multi-disciplinary event involves Cycling, Running, (or walking) and Kayaking. The event begins and ends at Newcastle GAA Grounds, Co. Tipperary. Eircode E91 W324 and this Google Maps Reference (click on link).
If you want to be kept up to date sign up for our newsletter to the right of this page, or follow our Facebook Page or Instagram Account. There is a Knock ME Down 2023 Facebook Group here. Feel free to join up, you do not have to be a participant to take part in the group.
2024 Event Details
As multi-sport events go, this is well suited to anybody with a reasonable level of fitness. The entire course is on well marked roads and forestry tracks so getting lost will not be an issue. There are two distinct events:
Knock ME Down Challenge – 35km
Knock ME Down MÓR – 62km.
Note: if you are a beginner or not terribly fit, choose the Challenge. The MÓR event requires a good level of fitness.
Timing: is recorded using disposable chips in your race number. Please remember not to cover (with a backpack) or remove your race number (to store it somewhere else) or you will not be timed when passing the timing mats at transition zones.
Time slots are available on a first booked, first served basis – when they are fully booked, they will become unavailable on the system. You can book up to 6 participants at a time. If you do want to book in groups but are booking separately, try to book later time slots as these book more slowly.
Pricing:
In 2024, for the first time, there will be earlybird tickets available up to June 7th. From that date the full price will become payable.
Prices for the 2024 event are:
- MÓR – €110.
- Challenge – €100
What’s Included:
You’ll be provided with all Kayak gear at the lake (kayak, paddle & floatation device). They’re easy to put on and the Kayak section is the best fun, no matter what your experience level. We will have helpers on the lake at all times.
Tee Shirt, backpack & participation medal. You’ll get the Tee Shirt and backpack when you sign in on the evening before or the morning of the event. Medals are presented at the finish line to everybody that completes the race.
Your fee includes refreshments at the end of the event, weather permitting to the rear of the GAA Hall in Newcastle, or in the hall if necessary.
What’s not included:
You must have appropriate footwear for the event and a proper cycling helmet must be worn for the cycling section. You need to bring a bike. The type used is up to you. With all cycling on tarred surfaces, a racing bike will probably be the fastest, while a mountain bike with off-road tyres probably being the slowest. It’s your choice, but it must be road-worthy at the very least.
Footwear: Some people change from runners to cycling shoes for the cycling section. Remember to bring a method to carry the spare shoes if you wish to do this.
Where is it on?
The start and finish of both the Challenge and MÓR events is at Newcastle GAA Hall (E91 W324 you can save this Google Maps link to your phone) at the GAA field in the village of Newcastle, not too far from the towns of Clonmel and Cahir, Co. Tipperary. You can find an outline of both courses on their individual pages.
Sign-In on the morning of the event will be in the GAA Hall for the time of the wave you choose. Starting time slots are available in waves from 8.30am for MÓR and 11am for Challenge participants. There are changing and shower facilities available, courtesy of Newcastle GAA Club, at the GAA grounds.
NOTE: Please do not show up on the morning of the event expecting to take part without booking. The event MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE ONLINE. All participant numbers will have been allocated with timing chips in the week prior to the event. Once this has been completed, no further entries can be taken. In reality, booking fills weeks, if not months, before the event takes place.
Keeping up to date: follow the Knock ME Down Facebook Page. Photos and video of the event will also be posted online after the event has taken place.
Results are emailed to participants individually. The winners in each event will be posted on this website and on our Facebook page.
